Sakai Yoashiko is known as a scholar and an atheist who despises the
Christian church and will not by any circumstance have anything to do
with them. With the Buddhists he has a more relaxed relation and he
is often seen discussing philosophy with the monks. At young age Yoashiko
was trained in the use of the katana as well as taught in the intellectual
arts of war and history. To solve problems he encountered as a young
student he always analysed the problem and then drew logical conclusions
to solve the problem, a quality which would become useful as a general.
He continued his education and at the age of sixteen it was decided
that he would become an officer and was trained thereafter. The Sakai
family stretches back over a long time. They have been merchants under
the rule of the Tokugawa family for centuries and are well known for
their competence and loyalty. Lately they have had many successful generals
from their family like Tadatsugu who participated in the battle of Mikita-ga-Hara
(he is Yoashikos younger cousin), and of course Yoashiko himself. As
a general Yoashiko is calm and flexible and well liked among the troops.
He prepares well before the battle and always make up plans which are
flexible. In combat Yoashiko is as stealth as a panther and as fierce
as a tiger wielding his two katanas with great skill. Wherever he goes
he always carries his copy of Sun Tzu’s art war with him and he
says that “You only need two things as a general Sun Tzu’s
art of war and logic analysis.
